Stainless Steel Alloy 255, Ferralium® Alloy 255
Stainless Steel Alloy 255 is a solid strengthened alloy that offers high strength and outstanding wear resistance. Also sold under the brand name of Ferralium® Alloy 255, this cost effective alloy has a number of beneficial characteristics including:
- Resistance to corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-stress corrosion cracking
- High strength-to-weight ratio
- Good ductility
- Over twice the mechanical strength of regular stainless steels such as Alloy 20
- Good fabricability
In order to be labeled as Stainless Steel Alloy 255, an alloy must contain the following chemical composition:
- Cr 24-27.0%
- Ni 4.5-6.5%
- Mo 2.9-3.9%
- Cu 1.5-2.5%
- Mn 1.5% max
- Si 1.0% max
Alloy 255 is a referred to as a “super” alloy because it is perfect for situations where conventional stainless steels are inadequate. Wide ranges of industries rely on Alloy 255 including chemical, marine, sanitation, metallurgical, plastics, oil and gas, papermaking, metalworking, and nuclear.
For many years, Continental Steel has been distributing Stainless Steel Alloy 255 in a broad range of forms and sizes such as sheet, coil, strip, plate, pipe, bars, and tubing. As with everything we sell, our Alloy 255 meets different critical industrial standards from organizations like ASTM, ASME, and EN.
