Stainless Steel Alloy 301, UNS S30100
Type 301 Stainless Steel, often referred to as UNS S30100, is a popular austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that is known for its corrosion resistance. Similar to Type 304, Type 301 has lower levels of chromium and nickel which increases its cold work-hardening range.
Type 301 is readily formed and drawn and is has good weldability. It is utilized for a wide variety of applications and industries including:
- Aircraft parts
- Truck and trailer bodies
- Kitchen utensils and table wear
- Architectural (trim, drainage products, storm door frames)
- Automotive (trim, wheel, covers)
- Conveyor Belts
- Home and industrial appliances
- Mass transit systems
To be considered Type 301, a stainless steel must have a certain chemical composition that includes:
- Cr 16-18%
- Ni 6-8%
- C 0.15% max
- Mn 2% max
- Si .75% max
- P 0.40% max
- S .030% max
Type 301 Stainless Steel has a minimum tensile strength of 185,000 PSI and 140,000 PSI yield strength. All the Type 301 stainless steel we supply meets or exceeds the industry’s toughest standards.
